Serpentine Belt Replacement > How can I tell if I need belt(s)? > Rib Separation


Appearance/Symptoms: Belt rib begins separating from joined strands. If left unattended, overcord will separate causing entire belt to unravel.


Cause: Outer-most belt rib was installed outside of pulley causing belt rib to run without a supporting pulley groove.














Solution: Replace belt. Ensure all ribs of the replacement belt fit into pulley grooves. Run engine then re-inspect belt for proper installation.
