Ignition System Service - Houston's Premier Auto Repair Facility

The ignition system creates the spark that ignites the fuel and air in a gasoline engine. Parts of this system are commonly known the secondary circuit components (relating to the high voltage side of the ignition system, usually above 20,000 volts). The secondary circuit includes; the ignition coil, coil wire, distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires, and spark plugs.

The engine computer determines when the spark should happen by the signal it receives from the crankshaft position sensor. The timing is further fine-tuned according to readings from other sensors such as the knock sensor (which listens for the noise created when the spark happens too early), the throttle position sensor, and the mass air flow sensor.

Spark plugs need to be replaced at recommended servicing intervals recommended by your vehicle manufacture to help keep up a healthy ignition system. They need to be periodically inspected to see if any build up or irregular wear is present. All our Service Smart℠ clients have their spark plugs periodically inspected for any irregularities.
