Why is rotating tires important?
Rotating tires allows the tires to wear evenly. When done properly all the tires will be worn out at the same time. Also it gives technician's a chance to inspect your front and rear brakes.
From our experience with vehicle and tire manufactures it is advisable to rotate tires every 10,000 miles.
Three main things occur during a tire rotation:
- Check and correct tire pressure
- Rotation of tires - Either forward/backward or crisscross; depending on the tire make, vehicle make, and technician recommendation after examining the vehicle tires
- Physical inspection of brakes - A great advantage versus having to pay for a tire rotation and then pay for a brake inspection a couple months down the road.
Over Inflation
An over inflated tire creates a slight bulge in the center of the tread. Overtime, this section of the tire becomes more worn than the rest of the tire. If the problem is not caught and corrected soon enough, the tread could completely wear away in the center while having good tread on the outside edges of the tire.
Under Inflation
An under inflated tire creates concavity in the tire putting more pressure on the edges of the tire. If a tire is run for a long time being under inflated, the edges of the tread can wear out completely while still having good tread in the center.
